Our baby boy is one month old. This month has been absolutely crazy with a newborn, 3 other kids, Thanksgiving and the fact that I was deathly ill for the first two weeks after he was born. That was awful. He had a rough go of it the first two weeks or so. When we followed up with the doctor after he was born she was concerned about jaundice. He had to have his foot pricked and have his blood tested. Lucky for us it came back in a normal range, so no hospital visit. He also was still under his birth weight so she wanted us to come back a week later to check on that.
For the first two weeks or so of his life, he pretty much refused to eat more than an ounce or two at a time. He would start eating and immediately fall asleep. It didn't matter what we did he just refused to wake up and eat. So of course when we went back, he hadn't gained as much as they would have liked. Somehow by his third week or so of life he managed to come out of his slumber and start eating. Last time we had to get a weight check he had gained a whole pound in a week, so thankfully we didn't have to do any more weight checks. By his one month appt he was almost 10 lbs. That sounds much more like the children I birth.
During our first month his sisters loved on him, he got to meet his great-grandparents, had his first bath (which he hated) and got all sorts of visitors. One month pictures went pretty much as planned, in that they were nearly impossible. We survived our first month as a family of six, and I think we are getting the hang of it.
