Rufener's Farm Field Trip

Rylee had her first field trip of the year at Rufener's Farm in Suffield.  Since both preschool classes go together, my parents and Mackenzie were there too.  We've been on this field trip a time or two already over the years but this is the first time Rylee attended as an actual preschooler.  It was exceptionally hot that day which was a bit much for this 35 week pregnant lady.

We started the day off by playing on the slide, feeding the animals and riding the train.  After that we got to take our ride down to the pumpkin patch.  We made a pit stop first at the corn maze and the kids got to go through it.  After that we loaded back up and headed out to pick our pumpkins.  We found three good looking pumpkins and headed back.  I could have gone for some cooler weather but all in all we had a great day!

Dussel and Pumpkin Carving

We made our annual trip to Dussel Farm to get our pumpkins and enjoy the festivities.  We absolutely love going to Dussel and it's really convenient that it's only 10 minutes from us.  We gathered up the girls on a Sunday morning and headed out. They were beyond excited to pick out pumpkins this year.

Once we got there we checked out all the new things they had this year! 

The girls even got to meet the "infamous" Chief Oliver!

(When I repeated this story to my mom and said the girls met the Chief, she replied an Indian Chief???  Yes mom, an Indian Chief.)

It's neat to see how much bigger they have gotten over the years.

Of course we can't leave without having our faces painted.

Later that evening (after the girls begged us all.day.long) we carved our pumpkins.  Neither one are huge fans of sticking their hands in the pumpkins.  Matter of fact when I told Rylee to do it, she looked at me and said "Ew."

Paul was of course less than thrilled that Morgan picked out the most intricate pattern for her pumpkin.  He got over it though after she squealed in delight at the finished product.  Pay no attention to the fact that Rylee is wearing no pants.  She marches to her own drum.

I would be remiss to let my child's first Halloween go by without forcing her into a pumpkin.  I was unsure how this would go since Morgan and Rylee were both 4 and 5 months and therefore much smaller on their first Halloween.  I have an almost 11 month old that I had to squeeze into a pumpkin. We bought the biggest, roundest pumpkin they had and hoped for the best.  Thankfully it worked and she didn't put up much of a fight.

Field Trip: Rufener Farms

The Monday after the Spaghetti Dinner, Morgan and Mackenzie's class' had a combined field trip to Rufener Farms in Suffield. Greg was supposed to accompany me with Mackenzie but he caught whatever Paul and I (and what seems like everyone else) had the previous week.  So I ended up taking all three girls and leaving Tenley with my mom.  

We lucked out and got a nice day especially considering what most of October ended up being, weather-wise.  I was really enjoying this year since last year I was incredibly pregnant, it was hot and the girls picked out the two biggest pumpkins for me to lug around.  This year, I had three self-sufficient (for the most part) girls and no baby belly.

We started out on the tractor ride and headed back to the corn maze first.  They actually have a HUGE corn maze in the shape of the United States but we only went through the mini-one for sake of time.  I think it would take hours to go through the large one.

After that we headed over to where the pumpkins were so each of the girls could pick one out.  This year they were a little easier on me and picked smaller ones.

After we got back to the front the girls got to play on the slide and ride "the train". 

At the very end each class got together for a picture.

10/23/11: Pumpkin Carving

Everyone is sick today.  Paul most of all with a fever. The kids were a little high strung so we figured what better time to get them focused on cleaning out a pumpkin. Therefore, giving us a little break.  I'm now realizing when uploading the pictures that I did not get one of the final product. Oops!  Well when we carve the others I'll get a good shot of all of them. The girls had fun and for what it's worth a power drill works well to help carve them!

10/16/11: Dussel Farm

We ran out for a quick trip this morning to get our pumpkins at Dussel.  We take the girls every year and they pick out their pumpkins and check out the decorations.  Kelly, Greg, and, Mackenzie met up with us and the girls ran around and had a good time despite the rain.  Morgan was able to get her face painted again and we got some good photo opps of the kids.
